While it may not seem like it given the rising cost of most things, travelers are actually living in the golden age of cheap flights.
That's according to cheap flight-finding subscription service Going.com, which has analyzed the data to reveal some encouraging trends for travelers taking to the sky this summer.
Following a string of discouraging increases, average airfares fell 0.5 percent in March's inflation report and are currently 7 percent cheaper than a year ago and 15 percent cheaper than their June 2022 peak. Prices are even lower compared to the final pre-pandemic month of February 2020.
The data is even more encouraging when you adjust for inflation.
According to Going, when taking into account this factor, airfare in March was 10 percent cheaper than this time last year, 15 percent cheaper compared to five years ago and a whopping 33 percent cheaper than a decade ago.
In addition to using tools such as Going and Google Flights to score the best deals, travelers can work with a travel advisor to plan to fly on certain routes on select days at specific times to maximize their savings.
