Travelers on short-haul flights are getting access to a new in-flight benefit, thanks to Alaska Airlines’ latest expansion.

The Seattle-based carrier announced it would be adding its fresh meal options to its Main Cabin on routes between 670 and 774 miles. Previously, the food options were only available on flights that ranged 775 miles or longer.

The new dining selections include Alaska’s popular cheese plate, as well as its Jetsetter Jam Sandwich meal, which features cashew and oat butter and strawberry jam on croissant bread, grapes, apple slices, and a couple of pieces of cheddar cheese.

The cheese platter features a wedge of brie, two slices of Tillamook’s Sharp Cheddar and two slices of Beecher’s Flagship Handmade Cheese, all made in Washington and Oregon. It also includes five crackers, four apple slices, a handful of green or purple grapes and a chocolate truffle by Pacific Northwest chocolatier Maeve.

Alaska says that the cheese platter accounts for nearly 40% of all of its fresh food sales.

“For over a decade, our Signature Fruit & Cheese Platter has been the most requested and beloved offering on board,” said Mark Krolick, Alaska’s managing director of in-flight guest product. “We’re thrilled to continue delivering what our guests love and what Alaska is known for. No matter the destination, we want every guest to enjoy a taste of home and hospitality that makes their journey memorable.”

The newly expanded dining options are available for pre-order on Alaska’s app and website starting two weeks before a flight and up to 20 hours before take off. While passengers will see the new fresh food available on shorter flights, the meals are not included in Main Cabin fares, and fliers will need to pay extra for them. The cheese plate is $11 and the sandwich meal costs $9.50.

Alaska Airlines is also launching a new first-class dining program, featuring a menu designed by James Beard Award-winning Chef Brady Ishiwata Williams, who runs the restaurant Tomo in Seattle. The new dishes, including mochie waffle and fried chicken and serrano jaew-glazed short rib, launch on June 5.
