As excitement grows for the total solar eclipse on August
12, Alaska Airlines is providing travelers with the chance to see the natural
phenomenon in Iceland.
With the western region of Iceland being forecast to offer
the best views of eclipse totality, Alaska Airlines will operate daily seasonal
nonstop flights between Seattle and Reykjavík, including leading up to the
solar event.
The 2026 seasonal route departs Seattle at 6:35 p.m. and
lands at 9 a.m. the next day, giving guests a full day to explore the island
country. The return flight departs Reykjavík at 12:45 p.m. and lands in Seattle
at 1:40 p.m. the same day. All times are local.
The seasonal Reykjavík service will operate through
September 8, before returning in spring 2027.
Travelers flying the Seattle and Reykjavík route with Alaska
Airlines can expect complimentary Wi-Fi and premium pillows and blankets, while
eligible First-Class passengers and select Atmos Rewards elite members also
receive access to Icelandair's Saga Lounge at Keflavík International Airport.
Last month, Alaska Airlines announced an aggressive expansion plan to add more international
flights, expand its fleet by dozens of planes, and grow its network of premium
lounges over the next few years. The airline, which combined operations with
Hawaiian Airlines starting in 2024, is on a mission to become one of the
largest carriers in the U.S.
