American Airlines is preparing to roll out two new features
for AAdvantage members, giving some passengers a new way to improve their seats
and allowing top-tier elites to reserve complimentary Main Cabin food before
departure.
Automatic Seat Changes
According to View From The Wing, American’s mobile app now allows solo
AAdvantage travelers to select a preferred seat type, including aisle, middle
or window seats, as well as options closer to the front or bulkhead.
If a matching seat becomes available, American can
automatically move the passenger. The feature will keep passengers in their
existing cabin and will not charge an additional fee, but it will not include
exit-row seats.
Requests will be prioritized according to AAdvantage status
and then the time the request was submitted. Automatic seat changes will stop
24 hours before departure, and the feature will also turn off after a passenger
manually makes the change or after the airline assigns a matching seat.
Snacks for Top-Tier Members
American is also preparing a preorder option for Executive
Platinum and ConciergeKey members entitled to complimentary Main Cabin food.
The option shown in the app has a deadline of 20 hours before departure.
The airline recently announced a refreshed lineup of
complimentary Main Cabin snacks, including Goldfish, Biscoff cookies, Tate’s
Bake Shop chocolate chip cookies, and Peterson’s savory and sweet snack mix.
Select flights are scheduled to receive the new options
beginning in October.
