Travelers facing flight delays and cancellations will now have an easier time changing their plans, thanks to American Airlines’ newest app enhancements.
The carrier has rolled out new features to its mobile app that help passengers quickly rebook flights themselves and access support such as meal and hotel vouchers during flight disruptions.
“We strive to make every customer’s travel as smooth as possible, but we recognize things don’t always go to plan. When that happens, customers deserve transparent information and real-time tools to get their travel back on track,” said Heather Garboden, American’s chief customer officer. “Our new app enhancements are unlike anything else in the industry because they don’t just explain why travel was disrupted, they help customers take action. We’re giving travelers real-time options, real control and real peace of mind when they need it most.”
With the app changes, the airline says that during a disruption, its passengers will be able to see important information at a glance, such as flight status and a range of available actions, including rebooking through the app, reviewing next steps, or confirming that the carrier is working on providing other options.
The new features also include the ability for travelers to track their bags during disrupted flights and instantly access meal vouchers and hotel vouchers, when those options apply. The app also has a new integration with Uber and Lyft so travelers can easily find ground transportation options from the airport.
With the updated app, the airline hopes to reduce the amount of time that passengers need to spend standing in line to access customer service at the airport or searching for support across multiple platforms.
“With personalized choices that fit individual needs, these tools empower customers to take charge of their journey,” Garboden said.
