Members of AAdvantage, American Airlines' (AA) frequent flier loyalty program, received an email announcement Friday stating the loyalty programs of both AA and merger partner US Airways would be merging, "within the next 30 days," USA Today reported.
USA Today later confirmed this timetable with American spokeswoman Laura Nedbal, who said, "We don't have a specific date to share yet, but the merger will take place within the next 30 days...We wanted to narrow the timeframe for our customers because there are a lot of key technology components that need to happen before we can merge, but will share the date once we have it."
The merging will abolish the US Airways Dividend Miles loyalty program, and make all members part of AAdvantage. American made sure to tell customers that no miles would be lost in the process, but did say that there would be a delay on the elite status part of the process, saying "We'll determine your elite status level by looking at your combined elite-qualifying activity for 2014, and separately, your combined 2015 year-to-date elite-qualifying activity," they added, "It may take a few days to transfer everything, but we'll email you once it's completed."
