Boeing Reelects Its Outgoing CEO to Board of Directors

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun, who presided over a near-disaster in the air earlier this year, has been reelected to the company’s Board of Directors despite his announcement that he would resign as CEO at the end of the year according to a tally from a preliminary vote on Friday.

Calhoun was the top person in charge of the airline manufacturer when a door panel blew off in Alaska Airlines flight because of faulty plugs on January 5.

The incident has since triggered governmental investigations and speculation about safety protocols at the company.

Calhoun announced his resignation in March. Boeing is searching for his successor. Two other executives also announced their respective resignations.

He told shareholders who voted that the company is focused on safety and quality issues going forward amid the intense scrutiny.

Proxy advisor Glass Lewis had recommended that shareholders vote against Calhoun and two other board members, advice that apparently went unheeded, even though it is not surprising for a well-respected executive to still stay with the company after departure as CEO.

Boeing has lost more than $30 billion over the last five years.
