Caribbean Airlines is cutting two nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale and Jamaica as part of a broad reduction in service. Caribbean Airlines is ending its route between Fort Lauderdale and Montego Bay only six months after resuming the flights following a long hiatus.

The carrier is also removing its roundtrip flights between Fort Lauderdale and Kingston, according to a Caribbean Journal report. The services will stop beginning November 2.

“It was determined that current economic conditions impacting the Jamaica-Fort Lauderdale market require the airline to reallocate resources,” the carrier said in a statement to Caribbean Journal. “This decision supports the company’s long-term objectives of fleet efficiency, cost management and delivering reliable service to its valued customers.”

Customers with confirmed bookings on any of the canceled flights would receive a full refund of their fares, said Caribbean Airlines.

In other company news, Caribbean Airlines has reached a codesharing agreement with Air Caraïbes, expanding travel options for Caribbean customers and visitors.

Via the partnership, travelers from any destination within the Caribbean Airlines network may connect onto Air Caraïbes, via the French Caribbean territories of Martinique or Guadeloupe, for onward travel to Paris – Orly Airport, France.

The service will deliver benefits including single ticket itineraries and seamless connections, through-checked baggage from origin to final destination and issuance of all boarding passes at the first point of check-in.

Other benefits include coordinated flight schedules for convenient connection times plus expanded access to Paris and mainland Europe destinations.

This codeshare agreement with Air Caraïbes represents a strategic step in expanding our network, opening new connections to Europe via Paris-Orly, France,” said Martin Aeberli, Caribbean Airlines’ chief commercial officer.

“We are delighted to enter into this strategic partnership with Caribbean Airlines, giving its customers seamless access to Paris-Orly via our bases in Martinique and Guadeloupe,” said Hugues Heddebaut, chief commercial officer of Air Caraïbes, “while opening new opportunities for Air Caraïbes to serve new islands in the Caribbean.”
