Every year, on November 1 and 2, Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated in Los Cabos, Mexico. This mystical celebration focuses on the souls of the departed, which are said to travel back and dance among the living. Both San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, in the southern cape region, are fantastic places to witness this event and partake in the festivities.
In San José del Cabo, the Centro Histórico is transformed into an open-air exhibition, with grand Catrinas, perforated paper banners, and lovingly created altars. Meanwhile, in Cabo San Lucas, the Sea of Offerings festival on November 1 is held at Plaza Amelia Wilkes in downtown, running from 5 to 10 p.m. Visitors can expect colorful decorations, plenty of food vendors, and live music. The next evening, the marina lights up for Altares en Mar, where locals illuminate their boats with candles, resulting in a magical nighttime vibe.
