Good news for football fans hoping to travel to their favorite gridiron this fall: Delta Air Lines is launching its largest-ever college football flight schedule, with more than 40 additional flights to transport football fans to the next big game.
The expansion adds a total of about 8,000 new seats to smaller regional airports. A total of 25 college towns will be served under the new flight expansion—like South Bend, Indiana, which is home to Notre Dame; Columbus, Ohio, where Ohio State is located; and Gainesville, Florida, home to the University of Florida.
The new flights are built around some of the season’s most anticipated games, according to the airline, such as LSU at Clemson and Texas at Ohio State. Schedules across the new flights will be tailored specifically to accommodate Saturday game days, and the majority of flights will depart on Fridays with returns on Sundays.
Service begins at the end of August and stretches through football season until the end of November. Flights will be operated by a mix of mainline Delta service and Delta Connection.
“College football is one of the great American traditions, and Delta is excited to help bring even more fans to the games that matter to them the most,” said Amy Martin, Delta's vice president of North America network planning.
