Atlanta-based carrier Delta Air Lines is planning to expand its presence at its home hub airport by taking over spaces formerly run by Spirit Airlines.
The deal is part of bankruptcy proceedings after low-cost carrier Spirit officially shuttered its operations in early May. The airline has been working to liquidate its remaining assets, including planes and property within airports.
Now, a bankruptcy court filing shows that Delta has offered to pay $12 million in exchange for gates and other areas inside Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) that once belonged to the now-defunct budget carrier.
As part of the deal, Delta has offered to buy gates C4 and C6, as well as a former Spirit ticketing lobby and support space, according to a report from Atlanta News First.
However, the offer isn’t yet finalized. The court will make a final decision on the matter in a hearing on July 8.
