We’ve heard myriad reasons why flights have had to be diverted, but never this one.

This is new.

A United Airlines flight from Houston to Seattle had to be diverted to Dallas when a dog pooped in the aisle of the plane.

A Reddit user on the same flight said it took the cabin crew nearly two hours to clean and disinfect the feces. United Airlines does allow canines in the cabin area without a carrier if they are classified as a service animal.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 5, on flight 422. The equipment was a Boeing 737. So you can insert all the jokes you want about Boeing being crapped on.

"The smell never quite went away," the Reddit user said, adding the incident happened next to the first-class toilet, which was then deemed unusable.

It’s not appealing, but certainly not unprecedented. Maybe not even worse.

Last September, a Delta Air Lines flight had to turn around after a passenger appeared to poop in the aisle. Delta called it a medical issue.

And, of course, there have been plenty of instances where passengers have vomited on the plane and not made it to the restroom.

As far as man’s best friend, the airline recommends passengers traveling with pets bring a toy to keep them calm.
