Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is further cementing itself as a viable alternative to Miami International Airport (MIA) in South Florida as the facility has broken ground on a new terminal.
The new terminal, the fifth for the airport, will be ready by 2026.
It will have just five gates to start with and is expected to cost more than $400 million.
"I think it’s the price worth paying because it seems like it’s going to have so many positive benefits moving forward," said frequent FLL flyer Ab Rama Swami. "So, it’s something we’ll have to deal with short term, but overall, it’s going to be good for Fort Lauderdale and good for the community."
The addition of the new terminal is all part of what is known as the FLL Master Plan.
It eventually calls for a new hotel and parking facility, among other things. That includes the replacement of older concourses already constructed at the airport.
Reportedly, there will also be a People Mover available for added convenience.
