Travelers at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport got quite the surprise on Monday as hula dancers, musicians and greeters with flower leis surprised travelers to celebrate Hawaiian Airlines' fifth year of non-stop service from Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport to JFK.
That's more than 400,000 passengers on more than 1,500 flights since 2012.
"East Coast travelers have increasingly sought out the Hawai'i hospitality we offer on our non-stop service to Honolulu," Peter Ingram, Hawaiian's executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said in a statement.
Passengers at JFK's Terminal 5 preparing to depart on Hawaiian's daily flight H51 at 10 a.m. New York time were greeted by the festivities. (The flight arrives in Honolulu at 2:55 p.m. Hawaii time, allowing visitors to still have half a day on Oahu or to connect to another island.)

But the big surprise came at the ticket counter.
In celebration of the fifth-year milestone, Hawaiian introduced a sale through June 11: Roundtrip tickets for $769 (inclusive of all taxes and fees), for travel between JFK and HNL from Sept. 18 through Nov. 9.
So if you can get to JFK, you have a heck of a deal on your hands.
"We look forward to continuing to provide our guests with the most convenient, comfortable and memorable flight experience between New York and our Hawaiian Islands," Ingram said.
