Hawaiian Airlines announced the restart of service between Japan
and Hawaii, starting this fall.
The carrier revealed that flights between Tokyo’s Haneda
Airport (HND) and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA) would kick
off with three flights running from October 29 through November 4.
The service will become weekly on November 22 and return to
its original thrice-weekly schedule in March 2024. By March 13, Hawaiian’s Japan
capacity will be 59 percent above summer 2023 levels.
Hawaiian currently offers daily service between Honolulu’s
Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) and Tokyo’s Haneda and Osaka’s
Kansai (KIX) airports, including six-times-weekly service between HNL and Tokyo
Narita (NRT) airport and thrice-weekly service between Honolulu and Fukuoka
(FUK) airport.
“We're very pleased to bring back our convenient nonstop
service between Tokyo and Hawaii Island as we continue to restore our Japan
network to meet increasing demand,” Hawaiian’s Japan country director Takaya
Shishido said.
“The gradual increase in our weekly service from November
through March allows us to ramp up our operations to serve our guests,” Shishido
continued.
The airline will operate its Japan routes with 278-seat,
wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft featuring 18 Premium Cabin fully lie-flat seats,
68 popular Extra Comfort seats and 192 Main Cabin seats.
In response to the wildfires that tore through Maui,
Hawaiian stepped up to help immediately, adding
more flights to respond to the disaster. The carrier also announced they
are working with the Hawaii Foodbank and Maui Food Bank on food collection and
distribution and donated $150,000 to further support the organization’s
wildfire relief work.
