In the latest evidence of JetBlue Airways' expansion in Orlando, the airline has decided to open a hotel.
According to USA Today's Ben Mutzabaugh, JetBlue celebrated the opening of its brand new Orlando boutique hotel on Monday.
The Lodge at OSC is a four-story, 196-room property designed not for ordinary travelers, but for JetBlue crewmembers who are visiting the airline's Orlando Support Center, where new-hire orientation and regular training take place.
"JetBlue's one-of-a-kind culture literally starts from day one. Instead of ending the collaboration process as crewmembers disperse for the night, we can continue to build lasting relationships in our very own hotel," said JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes in a statement. "I personally try to attend each and every new-hire orientation to greet our new crewmembers as does our entire executive leadership team. With the Lodge we are investing in our most important asset-our people."
JetBlue points out that the The Lodge at OSC "will operate as a boutique hotel, with every element thoughtfully designed to reinforce JetBlue's values, inspire collaboration and team building, and deliver the JetBlue Experience to the airline's own crewmembers."
In addition to nearly 200 rooms, the hotel features a 24-hour gym, a basketball court and other fields for sports, a saltwater pool and a restaurant and bar on site.
Currently, Orlando International Airport is one of five of JetBlue's focus cities. The carrier flies nonstop to 23 different destinations from Orlando and also operates a maintenance facility, a bilingual call center and other training facilities within the Theme Park Capital of the World.
JetBlue will operate the new hotel in partnership with Pyramid Hotel Group, a Boston-based company operating numerous properties in 25 different states, Washington, D.C. and the Caribbean.
