Some airlines have begun
issuing waivers in anticipation of what is expected to be a major snowstorm in
the Northeast United States this weekend.
Snow has already begun to
fall in the Midwest, but depending on where you live, it could be a lot of rain
or snow in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The National Weather Service issued
winter storm watches up and down the I-95 quarter from Maine
to North Carolina.
Travel could be impacted
from New York to Boston to Washington to Philadelphia to Baltimore, and airlines
have been proactive ahead of the storm.
American Airlines is
taking no chances. The carrier has already issued waivers for those traveling
on Saturday and Sunday through Albany, New York (ALB), Allentown (ABE), Baltimore (BWI), Bangor,
Maine (BGR), Boston (BOS), Burlington, Vermont (BTV), Harrisburg (MDT),
Hartford (BDL), Manchester, New Hampshire (MHT), New York Kennedy (JFK), New
York LaGuardia (LGA), Newark (EWR), Philadelphia (PHL), Pittsburgh (PIT),
Portland, Maine (PWM), Providence, Rhode Island (PVD), Salisbury/Ocean City,
Maryland (SBY), State College, Pennsylvania (SCE), Syracuse (SYR), Washington
Dulles (IAD), Washington Reagan (DCA), White Plains/Westchester County, New
York (HPN), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pennsylvania (AVP) and Worcester,
Massachusetts (ORH).
Airline waivers allow you to
change your flight without incurring any penalties, although there is usually a
deadline associated with the waiver, and you must fly into and out of the
airport where you originally booked your ticket.
Delta Air Lines also issued
waivers for flights on Saturday and Sunday, January 6 and 7, at Albany, Allentown, Baltimore, Bangor, Binghamton, Boston,
Charleston (CRW), Charlottesville (CHO), Harrisburg, Hartford, New York
Kennedy, New York LaGuardia, Newark, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland,
Providence, Washington D.C. Dulles, Washington D.C. Reagan, and White Plains.
JetBlue also issued waivers at Albany, Boston, Buffalo,
Hartford, Newark, New York (JFK), New York (LGA), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh,
Providence, Rochester, Syracuse, Westchester County, and Worcester.
Check with each individual
airline because the rebooking deadline date is different for each carrier.
Southwest Airlines offers waivers
in which you do not have to pay the fair difference to rebook. Southwest’s
waiver destinations and takeoffs include Albany, Baltimore,
Boston, Hartford, Long Island/Islip, NY (ISP), Manchester, New York
(LaGuardia), Philadelphia, Portland, Providence, Syracuse, Washington (Dulles),
and Washington (Reagan National).
United Airlines is offering its waiver, also for travel on January 6 and
7, for Allentown, Albany, Hartford, Boston, Burlington, New
