Short hops throughout Europe are set to get a little more glamorous this fall, if you’re flying with Scandinavian Airlines. The Copenhagen-based carrier has just announced it will roll out a new short-haul business class on flights within Europe, starting October 1.
The new product will be a dedicated cabin at the front of the plane, separated by a curtain and an overhead divider. Passengers flying in the new spiffed-up cabin will have a new dining experience with premium porcelain tableware and blocked middle seats for extra elbow room.
On the ground, fliers in SAS’ European business class will receive lounge access, priority check-in, and priority boarding.
The new class is meeting an “increasing customer demand for premium service,” according to the airline, with the product providing “an elevated experience tailored to customers seeking comfort, flexibility, and a higher level of service.”
The cabin will be offered on all international European flights, including those within Scandinavia, and fares go on sale May 6.
"Many of our comfort- and quality-focused travelers expect a clearly defined European Business Class that aligns with international standards," says Paul Verhagen, chief commercial officer at SAS. "While SAS Plus has provided an upgraded experience, it has lacked the recognition and clarity that travelers seek. With the reintroduction of European Business Class, we are ensuring that SAS offers the premium experience of a top European airline."
Airlines around the world have been designing new cabins, seats, and lounges to cater to the growing demand for a premium flying experience, which has only increased in 2025 as the more price-sensitive passengers who typically fly in coach are spending less amid a shaky economy.
