When you can take a swim before your flight, you know it's a good airport.
That's just one of the amenities at Singapore's Changi Airport (picture above) and one of the many reasons why the facility was again named the World's Best Airport title at the annual SkyTrax World Airport Awards, announced this week in Paris.
"It is a great honor to be named World's Best Airport by SkyTrax for the third year running," airport CEO Lee Seow Hiang told SkyTrax. "This recognition is particularly pleasing for us as it comes at a time of transformation at Changi Airport."
The airport is planning a quarter-billion dollar expansion of its Terminal 1.
Six of the top 10 World's Best Airports were from Asia, and the other four from Europe. Not a single American airport even made the top 20, although Canada's Vancouver International was No. 11. In fact, you don't see an American airport on the list of 100 best airports until you get to No. 30, and that one was Cincinnati.
Denver was at No. 33, San Francisco No. 36, Atlanta 44th, Seattle-Tacoma 54th, New York's JFK was No. 60, Dallas/Fort Worth was 62nd, Minneapolis-St Paul was No. 86, Boston Logan was No. 88, Chicago O'Hare 92nd, Detroit Metro No. 96, Los Angeles International No. 98 and Raleigh-Durham was 99th.
The awards were launched by Skytrax, an air transport consultancy, in 1999. The company says more than 13 million surveys from customers in 112 countries were completed between May of 2014 and January of this year.
