We all remember how the events unfolded for Southwest Airlines during the Christmas season of 2022.
A combination of bad winter weather and an inability to technologically rebook passengers quickly proved to be a nightmare.
The numbers are staggering.
Almost 17,000 Southwest Airlines flights were canceled and the carrier was estimated to have. Given away almost 50 billion miles as compensation.
CEO Robert Jordan vows that there will not be a repeat of the scenario again this year.
“We are ready for the winter, absolutely ready," Jordan told Bloomberg.
Southwest is the nation’s largest low-cost carrier and fourth-largest airline overall. It lost $1.2 billion during Christmas last year.
"It was an ugly week. But that week does not define Southwest Airlines," Jordan told Bloomberg.
Managerial protocols and updates to technology have since been made to prevent another meltdown this year.
Still, other than what amounted to a body blow and a slight hit to its public relations, Southwest did not suffer any long-term effects since it has almost a fanatical following.
But it definitely made people wary of this Christmas.
