If you’re looking
to take off on a late-summer or autumn trip while keeping expenses to a
minimum, now may be just the time to book that upcoming escape.
Travelers can now
take advantage of Spirit
Airlines' latest fare sale, offering flights to popular destinations like Atlantic
City, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando and more for
as little as $20 one-way. The low-cost carrier has slashed prices on hundreds
of routes, which can be perused on its “Popular Flight Deals” webpage.
We spotted some
choice itineraries listed for less than $30, such as a mid-August departure
from Los Angeles (LAX) to Las Vegas (LAS) for as low as $20, from Philadelphia
(PHL) to Orlando (MCO) in late August for $21 and from Atlanta (ATL) to Fort
Lauderdale (FLL) in early September for $27.
Other standout
deals include:
- Detroit (DTW) to
Las Vegas (LAS) for $33
- New York (LGA) to Orlando
(MCO) for $37
-
Chicago (ORD) to
Orlando (MCO) for $39
-
Houston (IAH) to
Los Angeles (LAX) for $39
-
Philadelphia (PHL)
to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) for $44
-
San Juan (SJU) to
Orlando (MCO) for $56
These deeply
discounted fares arrive during a difficult time for Spirit Airlines, which has
been navigating financial challenges. In its latest earnings report, issued on
August 1, the airline announced plans to implement cost-control measures,
including a temporary halt on the recruitment of new pilots and flight
attendants, as well as furloughs for hundreds of existing pilots.
According to Travel
+ Leisure, Spirit Airlines’ President and CEO, Ted Christie, said in a news
release, "Summer demand remains robust and load factors have been strong;
however, significant industry capacity increases together with ancillary
pricing changes in the competitive environment have made it difficult to
increase yields, resulting in disappointing revenue results for the second
quarter of 2024."
In addition to the
fare sale, Spirit also recently unveiled a new pricing structure and guest
experiences that are set to launch for booking on August 16 and rollout across
the fleet by August 27. The overhaul includes the introduction of the new "Go
Savvy" fare class, which bundles a carry-on or checked bag along with
advance seat selection. This will make for a total of four
different fare classes available on Spirit: “Go”, “Go Savvy”, “Go Comfy”
and “Go Big”.
