This probably won't create a social media firestorm or anything, right?
The chief executive officer of Turkish Airlines said Thursday that pilots should marry, so that situations like what happened with the Germanwings crash in March can be avoided.
"Our pilot friends, whether they are men or women, their lifestyles are very important," Temel Kotil told new Turkish Airlines pilots at a reception.
He then referenced the March 24 crash in which prosecutors say Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz locked the captain out of the cockpit when he got up to use the bathroom, and deliberately crashed the plane into the side of the French Alps. All 150 on board were killed.
In piecing together the circumstances, investigators in Germany and France said that Lubitz not only had suicidal tendencies, but may have broken up with his girlfriend in the days prior to the crash.
That prompted Kotil to suggest that the responsibilities of married life would perhaps lessen the mental strain on pilots.
"The accident there happened, I believe, after (Lubitz) separated from his girlfriend," Kotil said. "Therefore, I am guiding those who are single toward marriage from this podium," he added with a smile.
Riiiiiiiight.
Because married people never argue with their partners.
Or divorce.
Or worry about bills and money woes.
Or have disagreements over the children.
And so on, and so on, and so on.
