With the busy summer season now just around the corner, travelers are justly concerned about what the air travel component of their trips may look like. The widespread and frequent flight disruptions we saw throughout 2022, as well as staffing insufficiencies and excessively long queues at airports, don’t seem to have resolved themselves yet.

Travel demand continues to gain even more momentum, leading the TSA to predict that air travel this summer will surpass even pre-pandemic levels. Given the ongoing issues, passengers nationwide are preparing themselves for more cancellations and delays, along with other harrowing ordeals in air travel.

Amid the anticipation, luggage storage company Bounce conducted a timely new study, analyzing the average time it takes to get through a number of the nation’s major airports, including clearing TSA security checks and passport control points—to determine the U.S. airports that currently have the longest and shortest passenger wait times.

It’s worth noting, of course, that flyers also need to factor in the time is takes to check in for one’s flight, navigate through the airport, check or retrieve any baggage or, if you’re extremely unlucky, get stuck in airlines’ customer service queues. Considering all that, to be on the safe side, today’s travelers would be wise to give themselves an extra hour on top of the standard suggested airport arrival times.

For its research, Bounce utilized U.S. Customs & Border Protection’s (CBP) Airport Wait Times data. The findings were as follows.
