A United Airlines aircraft bound for Hong Kong from Chicago had to make an emergency landing in Alaska after a passenger rendered two lavatories unusable-partly by smearing his own feces over the lavatory walls.
The incident occurred Thursday night after the passenger dirtied several lavatories with his own human waste. He also tried to flush his own shirt down one of the lavatory toilets, according to The Washington Post.
United Flight 895 was met by authorities at Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, where the world's most crappy passenger was reportedly cooperating with local police and the FBI. According to the Washington Post, no charges were filed, but the man was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
Local news sources also reported that the plane required "maintenance," rendering it unusable for the night. Hong Kong-bound passengers were placed in area hotels for the night as United worked to secure alternate travel arrangements.
"United flight 895, traveling from Chicago to Hong Kong, diverted to Anchorage last night due to a disruptive passenger," said a spokesman for United Airlines. "Authorities met the aircraft upon its arrival at the gate. We provided hotel accommodations for our customers and are working to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible."
According to late-breaking information from CBS Chicago, the passenger had been released from an Indiana prison just days before boarding the Hong Kong-bound flight.
The diverted aircraft is just the latest in a long series of flight diversions caused by naughty passengers, for reasons ranging from non-ticketed passengers and evil spirits to death threats and physical attacks like biting to drinking unauthorized booze on board an aircraft.
