On Friday, a Spirit Airlines flight took off from Los Angeles for Denver, but after complaints about "fumes in the cockpit and cabin," it performed an emergency landing.
Spirit's Airbus 321 took off from Los Angeles International Airport at 8:30 a.m. but returned to the airport at 9:50 a.m. after the crew smelled something strange. The fire department responded to the scene and one person was sent to the hospital for additional evaluation.
The Los Angeles Fire Department told Fox News that oxygen masks were deployed as a precaution, though a spokesperson for the airline told the news outlet they were not.
The FAA and LAFD are still unsure what caused the odor, but are investigating the incident.
A Spirit Airlines spokesperson said that the aircraft was "taken out of service while our maintenance team inspects it."
Another Spirit flight was grounded a few weeks ago because of an "unknown odor," and several people were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
