To celebrate National Ugly Holiday Sweater Day on December 15, Alaska Airlines is offering early boarding to those passengers who wear a festive holiday sweater.
The one-day promotion will be honored across the airline's 115-city network and includes all Alaska, Virgin America and Horizon Air flights. In addition, holiday-themed boarding music will play all month long to help get guests into the spirit.
While this is the first year Alaska Airlines has participated in National Ugly Holiday Sweater Day celebration, the carrier is going all in.
Passengers are invited to share their memorable moments on Twitter by tagging their photos and videos using the hashtags: #UglySweaterDay and #MostWestCoast.
"Travel during the holidays can be stressful for guests, especially those who do not travel often," Alaska Airlines managing director of marketing and advertising Natalie Bowman said in a statement. "This fun promotion not only allows guests to board early on that day, but gives people another opportunity to dust off that ugly holiday sweater hanging in the back of their closet."
Due to the congestion expected at airports around the United States during the holiday season, Alaska officials are asking all passengers to arrive with their sweaters at least two hours before their flights.
Each year, Alaska Airlines and its regional partners carry 40 million guests a year to more than 115 destinations with an average of 1,200 daily flights across the U.S. and to Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica.
