Reddit users did not take kindly to a man who shared a story about charging an obese passenger $150 for taking up some of his seat on a plane.

According to the Mirror, the traveler who demanded payment from the obese passenger vented about his experience on Reddit.

He wrote: "He sits down and is easily seeping into about 1/3 of my seat. I sit down and am pressed up against him, making me uncomfortable."

"After a minute, I decided to be upfront and tell him: 'Sir, I'm sorry but this situation is not working for me, you're taking up quite a bit of my seat.'"

"I told the guy, 'Look, I'll put up with this if you give me $150 - that's half the cost of this flight and that would compensate me enough for the circumstances,'" he wrote online.

Another passenger who sat behind the two called him an "asshole."

The traveler told a flight attendant about his issue with his seatmate, and the flight attendant told the overweight passenger that he may need to buy another seat. It was soon discovered that the flight was full and he would be unable to do so.

Despite it all, the overweight passenger gave the traveler the $150 he asked for, which didn't seem to appease him completely since he took to Reddit to complain about his experience later.

Many Reddit users called out the traveler for humiliating his seatmate.

One wrote: "You didn't settle this privately-you humiliated the guy by involving the flight attendant and then demanding $150 to allow him to stay on this flight."

Another posted: "This is ridiculous. You made a scene and embarrassed the man and then made him pay you for a fraction of your seat. You are the epitome of an asshole."

This isn't the first time an airline passenger has behaved poorly toward a person of a larger size. In 2018, a man sued British Airways for having to sit next to an "extremely large" passenger.

While this incident brings to light how obese travelers are treated on airlines by other passengers or flight attendants, it also makes it clear that shrinking airline seats don't offer a lot of wiggle room for the majority of Americans.
