Since lodging-sharing company Airbnb announced an expansion of its business travel program last month, the website has seen an impressive rise in membership.

The company said so far more than 1,000 companies have signed up for the program.

The announcement, reported by the Star Online, comes a month after Airbnb announced it was taking the program global and revealed it has grown 700 percent since launching in July 2014.

The Star reported Airbnb landed a whopping 500 companies within 24 hours of launching the expanded program in July.

"The new global product suite allows companies around the world to sign in to Airbnb and access a variety of features designed to make the corporate travel planning process easier," TravelPulse's Ryan Rudnansky wrote last month. "Companies can now easily view employee travel itineraries booked through Airbnb, scan financial reporting data and monitor central billing."

"The corporate community's response to our Business Travel program has been staggering and confirms our findings that business travelers increasingly want to redefine the business trip," said program leader Marc McCabe via the Star.

"The average business travel stay on Airbnb is 6.8 days, which shows how customers are looking for a mix of business and leisure, and often adding a weekend to explore a new destination," he added.

Airbnb said that nearly three dozen countries are represented among the 1,000-plus companies.

Jeff Mannie, the controller of online storage firm Box, told the Star his company was "impressed" with the new product because it "allows you to uncover unique locations for temporary housing, team offsites and conventions where there is an opportunity to build closer working relationships by sharing accommodations in a casual and friendly environment."
