Tourism across Latin America is on the rise, and Uber is playing a key role in helping travelers navigate its most popular destinations easily. From Cancún and Punta Cana to Cartagena, Jamaica and Costa Rica, the ride-hailing platform offers seamless transportation between airports, beaches and iconic neighborhoods, connecting visitors with the region’s rich culture along the way.

Now, Puerto Rico has taken center stage in Uber’s latest travel initiative with the expansion of Uber Te Espera—a program designed to enhance the visitor experience, created in collaboration with Discover Puerto Rico. The launch comes as the island garners worldwide attention, thanks in part to major cultural events, such as Bad Bunny’s upcoming 2025 residency, which are attracting international travelers.

As a key component of the program, every active Uber driver in Puerto Rico will be granted complimentary access to an online training course covering the island’s history, culture, cuisine and local happenings, equipping them with useful knowledge to enrich the travel experience for their passengers.

"Uber drivers are often the first point of contact when someone visits the island. By giving them the tools to become travel ambassadors, we enhance the visitor experience while supporting the growth of local tourism in partnership with Discover Puerto Rico," said Carolina Coto, Communications Manager for Uber in Central America and the Caribbean.

Uber Te Espera expands on the existing Explorer's Guide, an in-app feature that helps users find top attractions and dining destinations across the island. The initiative also shines a spotlight on Puerto Rico’s vibrant culinary scene. Through a specially curated section on Uber Eats, travelers can discover local restaurants serving traditional favorites like mofongo, asopao, and alcapurrias—dishes that consistently rank among the most popular choices for visiting tourists.

Travelers from roughly 120 different countries have used the Uber app to explore Puerto Rico. Top destinations among international riders include Old San Juan, the Cruise Terminal, the T-Mobile District and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

This next phase reinforces Uber’s commitment to offering travelers a deeper, more culturally immersive way to experience Latin America, rich with local flavor and meaningful connections.
