AmaWaterways is expanding its travel offerings in South America with a new six-day Machu Picchu post-cruise travel extension, available for travelers who choose the Magic of Colombia river cruise itinerary.
The new journey will be available on select 2027 sailings beginning in April, and on every Magic of Colombia sailing beginning in 2028.
After ending their cruise in Cartagena, Colombia, travelers will fly to Lima, Peru, with airfare between the two destinations included in the post-cruise land package price. They’ll receive a transfer to their hotel in Lima, where they’ll explore the neighborhoods of Miraflores and Barranco with a local guide before heading to Cusco.
Once there, travelers will journey to Machu Picchu via either the first-class Inca Rail or the legendary Hiram Bingham, a Belmond Train, and explore the ancient Incan city with a local guide.
Travelers who choose this land package will also discover the Sacred Valley and Ollantaytambo, the ancient Maras salt pans, Moray’s agricultural terraces, the Incan temple of Koricancha and the Sacsayhuaman fortress.
“Machu Picchu is one of the most iconic places to visit on earth. It is so exciting to add this highly curated experience to our offerings and reflects how AmaWaterways is evolving its approach to luxury river cruising,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “We have always believed the best and most memorable experiences are those that connect our guests deeply to the places they visit. With our first ever Peruvian journey, we are bringing together exceptional hotels, food and service in an unforgettable location."
The trip is also designed to offer more flexibility and personalization, with free time built into the experience.
Travelers can pick from two hotel experiences: the boutique option, which includes stays at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center, Tambo del Inka, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, and Palacio del Inka, A Luxury Collection Hotel, or the iconic option, which offers stays at Miraflores Park, a Belmond Hotel, and Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel.
