Have you ever wanted to know what company actually builds the daring ropes courses aboard cruise ships?
In the case of Carnival Cruise Line’s upcoming new Carnival Horizon, Ropes Courses, Inc. is the manufacturer in charge of installing the ship’s Sky Trail course.
"Carnival Cruise Line is known for its thrilling open-air attractions and the ropes course on Carnival Horizon promises to be a spectacular attraction on our newest ship," said Dominic Chancellor, manager of Outer Decks Experience for Carnival Cruise Line, in a press release. "Guests can enjoy the thrill of traversing suspended ropes while taking in the breathtaking views to the sea below. We can't wait for our guests to check it out.”
What’s interesting to note, is that it will not be the same variety installed on the Horizon’s sister-ship, the Carnival Vista. This model will mimic the Sky Trail Expedition courses on the Carnival Breeze and Carnival Magic instead.
Carnival’s third Sky Trail designed and constructed by Ropes Courses, Inc. will be a single-level structure with 24 elements on a pair of paths. Supporting the circular design 150 feet above sea level will be a dozen poles up on Deck 14.

Challenges will include rope bridges, swinging steps and narrow beams on either a beginner or intermediate route. The ship’s 3,900 guests—or at least those who are taller than 48 inches—will have the opportunity to safely harness up and test their skills along the course, which can accept hundreds of participants per hour.
"Designing another Sky Trail course for a Carnival cruise ship was an exciting opportunity for us," added Jim Liggett, founder and owner of Ropes Courses, Inc., in the release. "Working with a smaller amount of space than we typically use for our many land-based structures and still managing to add so much variety and challenge, made this a really fun and rewarding installation. We realize that deck space on these vessels is at a premium and we were honored to be welcomed back.”

The company has been custom making, installing and servicing adventure products since 1989. Its products can be incorporated into amusement parks, zoos, family entertainment centers, museums, and resorts. A video showcasing the overall applications is embedded below.
Cruise travelers, of course, will soon be able to experience Ropes Courses, Inc.’s latest on the Carnival Horizon when the new Carnival Cruise Line ship sets sail on its first 13-day Mediterranean voyage on April 2, 2018. It will be among other deck attractions including the SkyRide suspended cycling tracks as well as a brand new Dr. Seuss WaterWorks aqua park.
