Carnival Cruise Line collected more than 5,000 pounds of trash and debris from beaches and waterways around the world this month as part of a companywide cleanup effort tied to International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 19.
Throughout September, 377 shipboard team members across 29 ships and 111 shoreside team members participated in 31 beach and waterway cleanups alongside local community partners. Together, the volunteers collected approximately 175 bags of trash, waste and other debris.
Cleanup efforts took place in Carnival's major U.S. homeports, including Galveston, Texas; Port Canaveral, Florida; and Miami, as well as destinations in Alaska, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexico, Greece, France and Australia.
Carnival Glory is scheduled to complete its cleanup on September 30, bringing the initiative to full fleet participation.
“We have the privilege of operating on the world’s oceans and visiting some of its most beautiful coastal destinations, and with that privilege comes a responsibility to protect them,” says Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “This effort demonstrates what is possible when our people and partners come together around a common goal, taking meaningful action to protect the oceans and destinations we proudly visit.”
The September initiative builds on Carnival's year-round coastal cleanup efforts. So far in 2026, Carnival ship and shoreside team members have collected more than 7,200 pounds of debris through cleanup activities.
The latest effort was supported by local environmental organizations, port partners and community groups and is part of Carnival's broader sustainability efforts through its Our Sea Pledge program.
The program focuses on five areas: Climate Action, Circular Economy, Sustainable Tourism, Biodiversity & Conservation and Good Health, Inclusion & Belonging. Carnival says the initiatives are intended to help protect the environment, preserve the destinations its ships visit and support the communities where it operates.
