Cruising has returned to Norfolk with the Carnival Sunshine setting
sail on the first of a series of year-round
cruises on February 11, 2025, after a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The five-day ocean journey will visit Freeport and Bimini,
Bahamas on a ship that accommodates up to 3,700 guests with almost 500 balcony
staterooms and dozens of suites.
Dining opportunities include Italian fare at
Cucina del Capitano, Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse along with bars and the Cloud9
Spa.
Other Carnival Sunshine cruise
itineraries will include six-to-eight-day sails with port calls in the
Bahamas, Bermuda and Eastern Caribbean.
During an almost year-long hiatus from cruising, Norfolk’s
Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center underwent renovations including a
sloped walkway and Customs & Border Protection upgrades. Both changes allow
smoother debarkation of passengers at the end of the cruise. Additional seating
and ingress work for vehicular traffic dropping off passengers will be ongoing
throughout the season.
The Carnival Sunshine returns to Norfolk fresh from its own
renovations after undergoing a facelift in Europe. The ship will sail with
about 150,000 guests annually from Norfolk, the highest volume in the port’s
history, according to a press release from Cruise Norfolk.
