Passenger Dies After Falling From Cruise Ship Balcony

A passenger died after falling from a balcony onto a lower deck aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway on Sunday night.

Norwegian Getaway was heading back to Miami at the end of a three-night cruise to the Bahamas. 

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to the port around 3:30 a.m., reports the Miami Herald.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the man dead on the ship.

The cruise line confirmed the incident in a statement shared with Cruise Fever, writing that “a guest went over their balcony, failing on a lower deck. While our crew acted immediately to provide life sustaining measures, the guest did not survive. Our thoughts are with the guest’s family during this very difficult time.”

Another passenger captured a photo of the aftermath and posted it on social media. The photo showed workers surrounding a brown tarp on the deck.
