Royal Caribbean International has cancelled the April 27 cruise by Majesty of the Seas so it can undergo repairs in a dry dock.

The company said a "small amount of oil had seeped from the stern" of the ship while it was anchored at CocoCay, Bahamas, on April 23. The company said the amount of "bio-friendly oil released was minimal," and was temporarily repaired when the ship docked in Miami on April 25.

During that period, the ship was fully operational and there was no impact on the maneuverability of the ship or on passenger safety.

"However, permanent repairs can only be made in dry dock," the company said in a statement. "In order to complete necessary repairs to Majesty of the Seas, Royal Caribbean will take the ship out of service for one sailing. Because of this, it was necessary to cancel the April 27 sailing. We are deeply sorry for this unexpected development in our guests' vacation."

Guests booked on the cancelled cruise will get a full refund, as well as a future cruise certificate for 100 percent of the cruise fare paid.

"We are deeply sorry that we will be unable to deliver the cruise vacation that you were looking forward to," the company said. "We understand that our guests' vacation time is very precious and can assure you that we did not take this decision lightly."

Majesty of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's oldest ship, built in 1992, and is being transferred to Pullmantur, its Spanish sister company, in 2016.

The 74,077-ton, 2,350-passenger Majesty was part of the then-groundbreaking Sovereign class of ships, which at the time were the largest cruise vessels in the world. It now operates three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas from Miami.
