A small cruise ship ran aground on a reef in Fiji on Saturday, requiring 30 passengers to be evacuated.
The 182-foot MV Fiji Princess, which is operated by Blue Lagoon Cruises, hit a reef near Monuriki Island, a small, uninhabited island most famous for being the filming location of the film “Cast Away.”
No one was injured in the incident.
“Whilst the investigation is in its early stages, conditions upon the ship anchoring in the area were calm, and it appears a severe squall caused the ship’s anchor to drag towards a nearby reef whereby the ship became grounded,” according to a statement shared with the Associated Press.
A ferry arrived early the next morning and all of the passengers disembarked with their luggage without issue. They were transported to Denarau Island.
