10 Must-Try Activities on the Unique Island of Nevis
Destination & Tourism Holly Johnson March 31, 2017

The luxurious island of Nevis takes up no more than 36 square miles of land, yet it is teeming with interesting activities and magnificent scenery.
Here are some of the top highlights of the tiny island, which is known for its dark-sand volcanic beaches and celebrity sightings:
1. Patterson's Pub Crawl
A Nevisian gentleman named Patterson takes guests on a Friday tour of the unique bars around the island. Snack on local conch delicacies, tip back some local beers or have some locally-made marijuana moonshine.
You may not feel comfortable walking up to some of the island’s local haunts on your own, but Patterson will make you feel like you belong.
2. Botanical Gardens of Nevis
The botanical gardens here contain some of the most beautiful tropical plant species in the Caribbean. The views of Nevis Peak and the turquoise blue waters are magnificent, too.
Make sure to check out the gardens for a look at the natural side of the Caribbean island, while checking in on the wild monkeys that call this area home.
3. Hike to the top of Nevis Peak.
It takes more than four hours to reach the summit, and the hike is steep! Make sure to bring appropriately active shoes and plenty of water as you ascend the peak for some of the Caribbean’s best views.

4. Visit the childhood home of Alexander Hamilton.
If you’re in love with the Broadway musical “Hamilton,” you can trace his humble beginnings back to this place. This American founding father's home has been turned into a museum featuring artifacts from his childhood and the island.
5. Relax in the hot springs.
The island's dormant volcano creates a hot spring perfect for relaxation. The island even has a hot-springs "hot tub" for tourists to enjoy.
Locals say the thermal baths help with aches, pains, and chronic health conditions. Come see for yourself!
6. Have lunch at Sunshine's.
Sunshine's famous beach cafe offers a fun and festive midday experience directly on the beach. Here you'll enjoy a delicious salad or sandwich surrounded by celebrity photos and hard-partying twenty-somethings.
Check out the glossy reminders that Jay-Z and Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also dined at Sunshine's.

7. Sprawl out on Pinney's Beach.
Pinney's Beach is a popular public spot well-known for its spectacular sunsets and stunning views of St. Kitts. Rent a beach chair and dive into a good book with the sparkling sands, crystal clear waters and island views as your backdrop.
8. Have lunch at Golden Rock.
This funky hotel sits high in the mountains and hosts some of the island's most beautiful ocean views.
The on-site restaurant is famous for its secluded sitting areas, monkey sightings and lobster sandwich. Thus, a lunch at Golden Rock is a must for anyone who visits the island.
9. Eat the seafood barbecue at Nisbet Plantation Beach Club.
On Thursday nights, Nisbet Beach Plantation offers an exquisite beach barbecue for hotel guests and other island visitors. All-you-can-eat fresh seafood is on the menu along with island-inspired live music.
10. Dive into the pig roast at Hermitage Plantation.
The Hermitage is an old plantation-turned-inspiring-hotel. It offers breathtaking views of the lush countryside, the distant sea and Nevis Peak.
On Wednesday nights, the plantation hotel offers a West Indian buffet and pig roast fit for kings. Enjoy some suckling pig with other West Indies favorites served in artisan clay pots and dishes.
