Over 40 mummies were unveiled in a burial site in Egypt.
According to CNN, the mummies date to the Ptolemaic era, between 323 BC and 30 BC, making the mummies over 2,300 years old.
Women, men, and children were discovered among the mummies, and according to Egypt's Minister of Antiquities Khaled El-Enany, they were most likely from the same wealthy family. They were all in good condition according to the ministry.
"Some of them were buried inside stone or wooden sarcophagi while others were buried in sands or on the floors of the tombs or inside niches," the ministry said in a statement.
It was last February that a research group from the Ministry and Minya University stumbled upon the burial site in Minya, Egypt.
They noticed "a tomb engraved in rock composed of a corridor leading to sloping stairs that opened to a rectangular chamber with a number of burials," said the ministry.
Two other chambers were discovered full of sarcophagi and mummies. Through the help of papyri in the grave, researchers were able to date the find to the Ptolemaic era.
This isn't the first great discovery in Egypt in the last year. In December, it was announced that a 4,400-year-old tomb was discovered in Saqqara, and just a month earlier, a treasure trove of mummified cats and scarab beetles were discovered in the same region.
