Sabor a Cabo: Dec. 4-10, 2016
The 11th annual Sabor a Cabo gastronomy and wine festival fuses the talents of Los Cabos' top chefs and global culinary artists who each put distinctive spins on dishes sharing vibrant flavors of the Baja and beyond.
The event actually kicks off with the Sabor a Cabo Beer Fest from Nov. 18-20 at the Marina Cabo San Lucas. Suds fans can quaff a few cold ones or opt for mezcals and tequilas while enjoying live music that varies from Latin and Rock to Flamenco.
Among this year's impressive roster of local chefs are Enrique Silva of Huerta Los Tamarindos, Jesus Castro of Edith's and Angel Carbajal of Nick-San. Sabor a Cabo has also invited Michelin Star status gastronomy gurus that include Dieter Koschina, Enrique Olvera and Richard Sandoval.
Dec. 10's grand finale unfurls with more than 50 restaurants creating an impressive display of its iconic recipes. Ticket options include upgrades for tableside tastings and sommelier wine presentations.
Since its launch in 2005 by CANIRAC Los Cabos Deligation, this annual foodie fest has donated its profits to various Los Cabos charities that include the Red Cross and local firefighters.
Los Cabos Marathon - Jan. 21, 2017
With its "Beat the Sunset" theme, the Los Cabos Marathon distinguishes itself with a Saturday 4pm start time that distracts runners by engaging them with the setting sun. The multi-distance event gears to varied preferences via a 5k, 10k, half marathon and full marathon. All routes begin at the Convention Center in Downtown Los Cabos and end at the Municipal Sports Center in San Jose del Cabo - with beautiful views of the Sea of Cortez along the way as runners hit The Corridor.
Participants and their supporters are privy to special rates at such host hotels as Hampton Inn & Suites Los Cabos, Las Palmas Hotels & Suites, Hyatt Place, Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabos and The Cape-A Thompson Hotel.
IRONMAN Los Cabos - Oct. 29, 2017
As part of the Ford IRONMAN series, the IRONMAN Los Cabos triathlon challenges endurance addicts with a 2.4-mile swim off Palmilla Beach near historic San Jose del Cabo, a 112-mile bike trek lapping the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose and a finale 26.2-mile full marathon lapping through San Jose. The event's 70.3 IRONMAN requires half of those distances for athletes seeking a more civilized challenge.
The official website provides "Hot Spot" tips on the top sites and times for spectators to watch the mega endurance event unfold.
For 2017, the IRONMAN Los Cabos will feature an Aquabike category that requires a 2.4-mile swim and 113-mile bike ride. This is considered an ideal race for athletes who are not ready to race a complete IRONMAN 70.3 or complete IRONMAN.
Extreme Sailing Series Finale - Nov. 30-Dec. 3, 2017
On the heels of a hugely successful transition to foiling GC32 catamarans in 2016, the Extreme Sailing Series will Los Cabos and San Diego to its 2017 itinerary.
According to series officials, the combination of new destinations alongside some of the proven venues will allow the series to introduce a more diverse racing format while expanding the number of boats.
The 2017 event will launch in Muscat, Oman from March 8-11 before heading to the Chinese Olympic sailing city of Qingdao from April 28-May 1. It then progresses to Portugal's Madeira Islands from June 29-July 2.
The balance of the schedule will roll out in a "to be determined" European location from July 20-23; Hamburg, Germany from August 10-13; Cardiff, UK from Aug. 25-28, San Diego from Oct. 19-22; and finale in Los Cabos from Nov. 30-Dec. 3.
