Looking for a getaway this Halloween?

New Orleans should be the top spot on your travel list this if you're searching for a hauntingly good time.

Put on your best costume and jam out at Voodoo Fest, a 3-day outdoor festival in New Orleans City Park.

It's one of the largest festivals of the year in New Orleans. This year, you can listen to headliners such as Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Dillon Francis, LCD Soundsytem, DJ Snake and more.

Plus, there will be a plethora of great food and art displays around the park area during the festival weekend.

Book your stay at Royal Sonesta New Orleans and have a balcony view over the famous Bourbon Street. Enjoy the fine luxuries and amenities of the hotel before touring the French Quarter and its haunted areas. A fun fact here, realtors here include on their listings if a property is haunted!

Given the long history of voodoo in New Orleans, as well as various horror movies and shows, New Orleans is jam-packed with spooky thrills for those seeking adventure.

Various scary tour offerings year-round include Bloody Mary Tours and Soiree, Haunted History Tours, New Orleans Cemetery Tour and Spirit Tours New Orleans.

Or you could go party the night away at the Frenchmen Street block party on Halloween night. Thousands of costumed revelers come out, and this business corridor has been dubbed the "new Bourbon Street," boasting live music spilling out of a dozen bars late into the night.

If you can't make it to the Big Easy for Halloween night, there are plenty of other events happening in October to celebrate the season.

For the kids, there is the French Quartour Kids Spooky Tour every Friday and Saturday. It excludes all the gruesome stories and keeps it kid friendly with tales of hauntings and legends to welcome kids into a world of mystery. They also hold adult tours as well for those looking for something scarier.

Additionally, there's the Boo at the Zoo on Friday, October 20, Saturday, October 21, Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28 from 5-9 p.m. Tickets are $17 per person and, according to the New Orleans CVB, the event "features trick-or-treat houses with candy, Ghost Train, a haunted house (scary and non-scary), games with prizes, entertainment and more."

The Krewe of Boo Parade will be held on Saturday, October 21. This annual event runs through the French Quarter and is filled with "Spooktacular festivities" like themed floats, marching bands, the Zombie Run and the Monster Mash at Generations Hall.

Sunday, October 22, head over to Oak Street in the Carrollton neighborhood for the 11th annual Oak Street Po-Boy Festival. Sure, it's not a Halloween specific event, but no trip to New Orleans is completed without a po-boy!
