The deputy party secretary of China's Guizhou Province, Wang Fuyu, will lead a delegation to New York City on Sept. 7 and 8 to introduce tourism and business opportunities in the little known province of Guizhou. Wang will be hosting a private dinner at the New York Academy of Science the evening of Sept. 7. During his visit, he will be meeting with stakeholders in tourism and potential investors. Guizhou Province, with its capital Guiyang, is located in the southwest China mainland, adjoining Sichuan Province to the north, Yunnan Province to the west, Guangxi Province to the south and Hunan Province to the east. Guizhou covers an area of about 67,958 square miles with a total population of more than 35.24 million people.
Until recently, the charm of Guizhou was one of China's best kept secrets as tourists have been daunted by its remote location and its rugged terrain. Today, those same features are attracting a new generation of adventure-travelers intent on discovering the "essence" of China. In addition China's new high-speed rail network makes the province an easily accessible tourism destination.
