As much of the United States continues to deal with winter
weather travel woes, Expedia released the findings of its Spring
Break Travel Outlook for 2024 survey, highlighting the season’s fastest-growing
destination trends.
According to Expedia’s data, the total solar eclipse occurring
on April 8 is one of the biggest trends this spring, with flight searches for destinations
along the path of totality skyrocketing, including a massive 95 percent
increase for Dallas and a 90 percent jump for Austin.
In addition to the total solar eclipse occurring during the
busiest travel week of the spring, the study found that traditional
destinations like Orlando, Cancun, Punta Cana, Las Vegas, and Miami rank
strongly in searches and bookings.
“Spring travel is going to be even busier this year with the
addition of solar eclipse seekers hitting airports in early April,” Expedia public
relations head Melanie Fish said. “The week of April 2 is going to be the
busiest and priciest time for air travel.”
American travelers are also planning
spring trips overseas, with searches for Tokyo to see the cherry blossoms
up 55 percent year-over-year and Paris before the Olympic rush being up 20
percent.
Data also found that Tuesday was the best day of the week to
travel based on average ticket prices.
“Whether it's a fly and flop beach trip or traveling to the
path of totality, the best hack is to save hundreds of dollars by bundling
flights, hotels and car rental on the Expedia app,” Fish continued.
