The Hawaii Tourism Authority announced Wednesday the islands are open and operating for tourists after Hurricane Lane dumped heavy rain on the popular destination last week.

In a conference call with the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, tourism officials said that Hurricane Lane weakened from a category 5 hurricane to a tropical storm, easing the impact of the storm on the island chain.

While the storm did bring excessive rainfall and flash flooding to Hawaii, the post-tropical cyclone is now moving westward and is no longer a threat to residents and visitors.

Officials from the Hawaii Tourism Authority are working to determine if any recovery efforts are still needed on the island, but they remain adamant that the state is open for business and travelers should continue visiting the dream destination.

Hawaii's airports, resorts, hotels, activities, restaurants, retail operations, beaches and publicly accessible roadways are open to local traffic and tourists. In addition, most forest lands and state parks are also open to the public.
