Toronto is a fascinating city to visit any time of the year, but during the fall, it offers a special opportunity for a fun getaway combined with all the best aspects of autumn.

As the weather drops to the 50s in Toronto, travelers can enjoy the crisp fall air with some truly exceptional fall experiences like leaf picking and high-quality hot chocolate. Here is your guide on where to stay, what to eat, and things to do when you visit Toronto this fall.

Stay in the Right Place

The right hotel can make for the perfect stay and you'll want to visit these two hotels during a fall getaway in Toronto.

Shangri-La Toronto, a luxurious property in downtown Toronto, just gave their lobby a makeover, adding more haute couture displays and a stage for daily and nightly live music. Enjoy the warm hospitality of their employees and a glass of honey beer from their hotel bar, made from the honey of the beehive found on their second-floor terrace.

For those who prefer something more boutique in nature, The Drake Hotel on the arts-famous Queen Street offers cozy rooms and great public spaces to enjoy Toronto in the fall. They are constantly rotating their art exhibits throughout the property, so you can be sure to experience a unique set up each season.

Plus, they bring out the heaters and redecorate their outdoor patio, The Sky Yard, to fit the season allowing guests to thoroughly enjoy patio time in a trendy autumn-equipped space.

Eat the Right Foods

Fall foods are warm, filling, and signal the start of the holiday season and you can find some great fall food and drink favorites in Toronto. Stop by San Remo Bakery or Yummy Stuff Bakery for a delicious pumpkin pie. Wash those pies down with elaborate hot chocolate drinks from Cacao 70 Toronto or SOMA Chocolate.

Poutine-or warm gravy over fries-is a Toronto favorite and it really hits the spot on a chilly Toronto fall day. Order top-notch poutine at Poutini's or Utopia Café & Grill.

Lastly, stay warm with a bowl of soup at the Toronto Soup Festival which features gourmet and artisanal soup flavors during an outdoor two-day festival at the end of October.

See and Do the Best Things

While you'll want to hit the top Toronto attractions like the CN Tower or the Royal Ontario Museum, there's some activities and things to see in Toronto that are only available in the fall that you should add to your list.

Check out the changing of the leaves in or near Toronto by taking a ferry to the Toronto Islands, driving to Niagara Falls, hiking at the nearby Scarborough Bluffs or strolling through High Park. There are over 10 million trees in Toronto, so you have plenty of opportunities to see red, orange, and yellow leaves.

Add a bit of apple picking in the mix at Downey's Strawberry and Apple Farm or the Applewood Orchard and you've got yourself a quintessential fall adventure in the 6ix.

Fall also signals plenty of events in Toronto like the Cask Days Beer Festival at the Evergreen Brick Works farmer's market or Art Toronto a four-day arts festival that takes over the city and features art gallery hops, art fairs, and lectures.

Best of all, the Museum of Illusions is opening in the fall of 2018, offering a unique and Insta-worthy opportunity for Toronto visitors to explore illusions in a world-renowned exhibit.

Before you leave, prep for ski season in Toronto by skiing and snowboarding indoors at the Axis Freestyle Academy. You'll be ready for a return trip in the winter to hit the slopes at the surrounding ski destinations like Blue Mountain and Horseshoe Valley.
