NYC & Company and Discover Long Island are collaborating on a new international marketing campaign.

NYC+ will highlight Long Island as "New York City's Beachfront Backyard."

The campaign will take place in Canada and Australia, proven source markets for New York. It will establish a new model for regional promotions that gives visitors inspiration to explore beyond the city to additional destinations in the area.

The promotion, which launches this month, is funded by an Empire State Development Regional Economic Development Council grant. The goal is to position Long Island as a charming, beachfront destination in contrast to the urban centers of Manhattan.

"Long Island and New York City are a perfect combined destination for the international visitor. The iconic NYC experience is on every traveler's bucket list and the ability to connect Long Island to that vacation aspiration is an immeasurable opportunity for our destination," said Kristen Jarnagin, president and CEO of Discover Long Island.

"New York City welcomes more than 60 million visitors per year; this partnership will allow us to generate further awareness for Long Island, showcasing the diversity and breadth of our destination and how a visit to our shores complements the ultimate New York City vacation," Jarnagin added.

NYC & Company president and CEO Fred Dixon hopes the promotion will boost visitor numbers for both destinations.

"New York City and Long Island are both attractive and welcoming destinations for international travelers, and we look forward to collaborating with Discover Long Island on this exciting new initiative to encourage more incremental Canadian and Australian visitation to the region," said Dixon.

The Regional Economic Development Council initiative is part of a targeted effort to boost visitation and attract visitors to the state of New York. The Market New York grants that are being used to pay for the first-time initiative were established to promote destinations, attractions and special events.
