For many travelers, getting away for vacation during the holiday season is part of the fun. Those who love warmer climates in the winter should look no further than Miami.
Even with the higher temperatures and the palm trees, the Florida destination celebrates the holidays in spectacular fashion.
Tropical Park in Miami will host Santa's Enchanted Forest, the largest holiday theme park in the world offering carnival rides, shows, games, a 92-foot tall Christmas tree and more than three million lights throughout December.
Travelers looking for a more elegant take on the holiday season can enjoy Deering Estate as it's transformed into Deering Holiday Wonderland. The facility offers historic tours of the festively decorated property and, for younger children, there will also be story time and photos with Santa.
Miami also offers multiple opportunities to watch live performances of the signature Nutcracker ballet, including shows at Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and The Fillmore Miami Beach.
Visitors looking for a cheap alternative to most popular holiday attractions will find solace in the Pinecrest Gardens Nights of Lights.
With free admission, guests will be transported into a holiday wonderland featuring pictures with Santa, midway rides, Christmas music, pony rides and Banyan Bowl performances on select dates.
While Christmas may be over on December 26, the party will continue through the New Year as the city is also hosting the 2017 Capital One Orange Bowl between the Miami Hurricanes and the Wisconsin Badgers on December 30 at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Regardless of which attractions and events you attend during the holiday season, getting away from the cold to enjoy the Miami weather with the family is a great alternative to staying home this winter.
