Mexico Tourism Surges as Arrivals More Than Doubled Since 2000

Tourism to Mexico has more than doubled in the last 25 years, and the country could climb even higher, according to new research highlighted by Mexico News Daily.

The report titled The Power of Travel: Our Perspective on the Next Golden Era of Travel was prepared by consulting firm Álvarez & Marsal in partnership with Google. 

Key findings include the jump from 21 million inbound arrivals to Mexico in 2000 compared to 45 million in 2025. By 2050, the report predicts Mexico could be one of the world's top-10 countries by volume of visitors.

The results were drawn from predictive models that combine search queries, tourism data points and airline travel trends to determine market behavior.

Latin America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East were also identified by the report to be regions of high structural growth due to an expanding middle class in those areas.

The World Cup will provide a significant boost to tourism in Mexico. Official estimations expect Mexico to receive around 5 million tourists across its three World Cup host cities, according to Mexico News Daily.

Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez Zamora also noted that Mexico will open 32 new domestic air routes and 22 new international routes during the first half of 2026.
