Mexico, the sixth-most-visited country in the world, marked 2025 as a resounding success, with international tourism reaching 98.2 million, a 13.6 percent increase over the year prior.
The number was the highest annual record in the country’s history, according to a press release by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism.
The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, noted that international spending reached $34.992 billion, a 6.2 percent increase from spending in 2024.
Of these international visitors, 47.8 million of them spend at least one night in Mexico, an increase of 6.1 percent. Other tourists include cruise passengers, who aren’t added to the total of overnight visitors.
“The end of 2025 confirms that Mexico is experiencing a solid and sustained moment in tourism. Never in the history of our country have so many visitors arrived in Mexico in a single year. This result is a reflection of a strong, resilient sector with a clear vision of the future,” said Rodríguez Zamora.
All last year, tourism numbers have been up, particularly for visitors from Canada. Canadian visitation was up 13 percent during the first six months of the year, indicating that, as Canadian visitation to the U.S. dropped roughly 25 percent due to worsening international relations, Mexico reaped the benefit.
Mexico is hoping to capitalize on being one of the three host countries for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It’s offering matches in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, with teams including South Korea, Denmark, Ukraine, Colombia, Mexico, and Jamaica competing across the three host cities.
