With NASA's Kepler spacecraft having just recently discovered its 1,000th alien planet, the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has decided to bring some of the most unique exoplanets into the mainstream by way of travel posters.
While it's a safe bet that humans won't be traveling to these distant planets anytime soon, the fictitious Exoplanet Travel Bureau's colorful ads will undoubtedly capture travelers' imaginations.
HD 40307g, Kepler-186f and Kepler-16b are the three exoplanets the JPL selected for the project, and each looks equally appealing. And if the artwork doesn't get your attention, the creative slogans are sure to pique your curiosity.
Here's a closer look at the poster for Kepler-16b courtesy of the JPL's official Twitter account:
In the description, NASA's Exoplanet Exploration Program compares the alien planet to Luke Skywalker's "Tatooine" from Star Wars, noting that like the fictional desert planet, Kepler-16b also orbits a pair of stars.
However Kepler-186f draws closer comparisons to our Earth, with NASA's description pointing out that it's "the first Earth-size planet discovered in the potentially 'habitable zone' around another star, where liquid water could exist on the planet's surface."
Considering the little we understand about these exoplanets, it's the unexplored factor that seemingly makes them so appealing. Therefore, you don't have to be a space nut or an art enthusiast to appreciate their singularity.
