Scotland has developed a new augmented reality (AR) app that complements the "Scotland Is Now" global campaign.
Step Into Scotland is the result of a collaboration between VisitScotland and Google and enables users to immerse themselves in Scotland-putting the country into the palms of their hands.
Scotland is one of the first countries to develop an app with this type of technology and with it, they will be able to explore Scotland's awesome landscapes and iconic attractions as well as learn from locals about what makes Scotland an amazing destination to visit as well as an innovative place to live, work and study.
Those planning to travel to the country can use the app's AR technology to experience Scotland's North Coast 500 from a motorbike, paramotor Ben Nevis, explore Edinburgh Castle and even visit some of the country's whiskey distilleries-although, you will have to visit for real to actually taste the whiskey.
The app was made by Edinburgh-based creative marketing company Whitespace with content developed by VisitScotland in partnership with Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, and Universities Scotland. These partners worked with Google on the augmented reality experience, which was built with ARCore.
